About Author
Dr. Hema Kanta Barua is a distinguished civil engineer with a specialization in structural engineering. Earning his Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur in 1976, his illustrious career has spanned both academia and industry. In the early phase of his journey (1966–1978) and again from 2010 to 2023, Dr. Barua dedicated himself to teaching and research, nurturing future engineers. Between 1978 and 2009, he made a lasting impact in the construction industry, notably founding RGT Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd. in 1988—an organization that continues to thrive today. An accomplished writer and editor, he has published extensively in international and national journals and served as the editor of The Construction Tribune, a widely respected technical newsletter, from 1982 to 1996. Dr. Barua has also contributed on global platforms, through participation at prestigious events like the UN Commission Colloquium on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Vienna, the IGCC Delegation to Germany on energy-efficient buildings, and the Sixth World Conference on Earthquake Engineering. This book captures the depth of his experience, insights, and legacy across decades of innovation in engineering and infrastructure.
