Chapter one covers forestry practice in the period when Kenya was a colony of the British empire. The chapter highlights the contributions and influences made by British forestry personnel. Chapter two covers the period of rapid expansion of industrial forest plantations from independence to mid-1980s. Chapter three covers the uptake of tree growing and forest conservation by conservation groups and by farming communities. Chapter four covers period of rapid decline in effective management of forests and increased forest destruction. Chapter five presents some outstanding challenges for the current forestry regime. Chapter six covers new and emerging areas forestry R&D.
