Description
Treasure Island (originally titled The Sea Cook: A Story for Boys) is an adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, telling a story of “buccaneers and buried gold”.
The novel revolves around an impulsive and adventurous young boy named Jim Hawkins who helps his parents run the Admiral Benbow, an inn near Bristol, England. Eventually, he comes across a treasure map and sets out a journey to recover the treasure which once belonged to the famous Capt. Flint.
On his journey, he meets Long John Silver, a one-legged cook who ends up leading a pirate mutiny. During the voyage, Jim comes to know about the evil plans of the pirates to steal the treasure once it is found. This is followed by a vigorous tale of mutiny, treachery, swordfights, and murder, making it really difficult for Jim and others to survive against ruthless enemies. Ultimately, with the aid of Captain Smollet and Ben Gunn, two significant characters in the novel, Jim and the others prevail over the pirates and return home with the treasure.
While a preeminent adventure tale, Treasure Island is also an enduring coming-of-age story. With its evocative atmosphere, vivid text, and fantastic characters, Treasure Island has been one of the most widely-read novels over the years.
