  1. Connect to Your Readers: The first step to creating your brand is connecting to your readers. By virtue of social media, you can directly warm up to your readers – the potential buyers of the book. Expand your social circle by creating new friends and reviving old contacts. This is easy to do from a digital author platform, like a website, Facebook page, Instagram account, etc.
  2. Self-publish Your Own Book: Getting recognition as an author is a protracted process requiring remarkable time and effort. To expedite your success journey, you may want to self-publish your first few books. It is not difficult to figure out that, despite strong social media presence and large-scale campaign, the whole publicity drive will look a lot better with a few published books in your sack than without.

  7. Partner with Peers and Influencers. Building author connections will give you access to their individual readers and help you expand your network. Consider attending literary meets, the author connects, book launch events and lectures.
  8. Consider Publishing Different Versions: Gone are the days when readers will want to hold a book for reading it. There is a growing number of people who are comfortable with high-end gadgets like phone, tablets, etc and readers who spend a lot of time travelling and may like to hear a story on the go. You may not want to lose out on them as your potential readers. So, besides the traditional printed edition, it is wise to publish a variety of different formats like e-books and audio books. And of course, in this area, you’ll have far less competition than in the conventional print market.
  9. Focus on Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Do it yourself or leave it to an expert. Optimized key-words are highly effective to use and can be relied on while designing the title of the book. But, keyword trends can change any moment, so work diligently.
