Northern Ghana depends largely on agriculture for livelihood of its people. In December 2019 the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in Wuhan, China. By 12th of March 2020, two cases were confirmed in Ghana, increasing to 5408 cases within two months. A number of social interventions were undertaken to slowdown the spread of the contagious virus and limit its impact on livelihoods. In this book analyses are made on how COVID-19 would impact crop and livestock production, nutrition security, as well as the hospitality industry. The book outlines how outlined social interventions could affect productivity of these sectors and proposes mitigation steps to ensure that the sectors remain resilient to supply essential services. From the perspective of experts, a team of scientific authors analyzed the prevailing food production technologies, the potential impacts of the disease and mapped out the mitigation steps to aid decision making by stakeholders in the sectors.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The authors of this book comprise experts in the field of microbiology, epidemiology, medicine, agriculture, nutrition, and the hospitality industry who have extensive experiences in the respective field across northern Ghana. The authors have been involved in research and human capacity building at Universities and Hospitals that vary in scope across the globe and with experiences ranging from 9 to 36 years. In their respective fields, the authors have each written numerous books and scientific papers that are published in world renowned scientific Journals. They also have worked on COVID-19 related research in the respective field in northern Ghana.
