Interview with Bruce Festus
First of all, I would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to publish your book ‘How to Fix Your Air Conditioner Yourself’. I would like to ask you a few questions regarding your recent release.
Exceller Books: What was your biggest inspiration behind writing this ‘do-it-yourself’ book?
Bruce: My biggest inspiration is to see people benefit from this book, to see people do those minor technical things they believed was only for professionals, to see people fix minor problems on their air-conditioners themselves when there is no mechanics around and this will save a lot of money and down time. It will also give the equipment a longer productivity and reliable life.
Exceller Books: There are many electronic gadgets other than ‘air- conditioner’, but you chose particularly ‘air- conditioner’ for your book. Please share with us the reason of such a decision.
Bruce: I choose air- conditioner because that is my field, that is where I started from as an apprentice and worked through the ladder of success with over 35 years of experience and still counting. I have travelled and worked in various capacities in the field of HVAC troubleshooting, repairs and installations and has held various positions in both local and international companies with both in house and outside trainings.
Exceller Books: Generally, majority of us use ‘air-conditioner’ and when it gets damaged, we call on the company helpline number and ask them to send someone to fix it. Why did you find it necessary that people should be self-dependent in carrying out the minor repairs on the ‘air-conditioner’ of their room?
Bruce: This idea came to me when my vehicle broke down on a lonely road, I called the service man and I had to wait for about 4 hours for him to get to me, when he came it was a very simple thing that I could have done myself if was properly instructed. Now suppose that it happened in the night, when there is no help around. This is why I decided to share my knowledge in my area of specialty to those who care enough to do things themselves. I don’t like people suffering for what they can easily fix by themselves.
Exceller Books: That’s really great! Well Bruce, you are an engineer which means you have the mindset of building and repairing things, which is a rare virtue nowadays. Do you think your book will inspire people (non-experts) with a creative outlook?
Bruce: Yes, this edition is meant for the benefit of those who are interested in doing things themselves, the technically and non-technically inclined. It’s a foundation for those that are aspiring to be HVAC/R&A Technician in the future because it tells you the steps by steps on how you can service your air-conditioner yourself as a layman and how you can carry out those minor repairs on your split room air-conditioner without the assistance of a service technician. This will save you a lot of money and down time and it will give your equipment a longer productivity and reliable life.
Exceller Books: Do you want to stick to a particular genre or you want to establish yourself as a versatile writer?
Bruce: Basically for now, I will stick to where I have load of experience because I still have more editions coming up on HVAC System.
Thanks for your time. Wish you ‘all the best’ for your future and hope you enjoy a successful career as a writer.
