Description

The Hitches of Childhood is a novel written by Ngoanannete D. Lekhanya, a B.Ed student at NUL 2006-2009. The novel tells the story of how T’sepo who starts school in the absence of his father, Michael. Michael seems to have been swallowed by the mines in the Republic of South Africa. He is growing up around his mother, ‘Mat’sepo, and grandfather, TebohoT’sepo fails to recognise and accept Michael as his father when he eventually joins the family. The fact that Michael does not come home voluntarily from the mines like other men, but is collected by ‘Mat’sepo does not, in T’sepo‘s view, show Michael’s commitment and love for his family. Michael joins the family disposed and is confined to the wheelchair, thus making it difficult for him to fend for his family; neither does he even have a chance to make up for neglecting his duties as a husband, father, and son.

About Author

Ngoanannete David Lekhanya was born and raised in the mountain district of Thaba-Tseka at a village called Litsoetse Halekholoane. His early schooling was a combination of schooling and herding animals like most rural boys. He completed his PLSE in 1984 at Litsoetse Primary school and enrolled for Junior Secondary education at Bokong Community Secondary school /Bethesda. After obtaining a JC in 1987, he joined his mother as a factory worker in Maputsoe industrial area. After a year, he enrolled for senior secondary at Paray High school in 1989 to 1990. After this adventure, he joined the HWV dam construction companies from where after six years he enrolled at the National Teacher Training College (NTTC) now Lesotho College of Education (LCE) for a Secondary Teacher’s Certificate (STC). It was at the college where a desire to write began. He started his teaching career at Mapholaneng High School in Mokhotlong District in 2002 and went to teach at St. Francis High School in Qacha’s Nek. He enrolled for a Bed in 2005-2006 academic year at the National University of Lesotho (NUL). Following completion, he taught for two more years at St. Francis and Joined (LCE) as a tutor in Development Studies education. Midway in his tutorship adventure, he enrolled for MAEd with NUL in 2016-2017 academic year. Following completion, he joined NUL as a lecturer in Development Studies education.
